Research
Research efforts are directed primarily to two areas: childhood cancer epidemiology, and cooperative group work within the Children's Oncology Group (COG).
Prior epidemiology work includes an analysis of trends in the incidence of childhood cancer in Connecticut as well collaboration with researchers at the School of Epidemiology and Public Health on a case-control study of indoor radon levels and childhood cancer. Current efforts include a case-control study of leukemia in regions of Belarus contaminated by the Chernobyl nuclear accident and establishment of a childhood cancer registry in the country of Belarus.
In the past, independent research has focused on supportive care issues, primarily antiemetics and infectious complications of indwelling right atrial catheters in children. Past work within the Pediatric Oncology Group includes an earlier study detailing the use of VP-16, Ifosfamide and Cisplatin for recurrent solid tumors and coordination of a localized neuroblastoma therapy study. Current effort in the Children's Oncology Group is directed towards co-coordinating a low-risk ALL study.
