Patient-Oriented Research

Yale University School of Medicine is unique in the extent of its commitment to Patient-Oriented Research. This website contains information on over 300 distinguished faculty members involved in patient-oriented research, across a broad range of biomedical disciplines. It also provides an inventory of research and training resources.

Patient-oriented research is investigative work conducted with human subjects (or on material of human origin such as tissues, specimens, and cognitive or behavioral phenomena) for which an investigator or colleague directly interacts with human subjects. It includes mechanisms of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, development of new technologies, clinical epidemiology and outcomes research.

The purpose of this website is to:

  • Foster recognition of the Yale University School of Medicine as a center of excellence in patient-oriented research
  • Showcase research and training resources in patient-oriented research
  • Provide a vehicle for faculty members to identify research collaborators
  • Facilitate the identification of research mentors by medical students and fellows

Clicking the faculty search button in the left hand margin provides access to the researchers and their scientific interests. You may search by key word(s), department, or investigator name. Many researchers have provided links to their COS (Community of Science) web page.

You may also link directly to any of the other pages in the left hand margin.
